Water Bay 1979 Club: A Refined Artistic Oasis

Yu Qiang's Masterpiece Blends Modern Art and Sophisticated Lifestyle

Water Bay 1979 Club, a unique city complex in China, is a testament to the blend of art and lifestyle. Designed by Yu Qiang, this project is a perfect example of modern art meeting sophisticated lifestyle, creating an aesthetic space that is both public and humanistic.

Yu Qiang's inspiration for the Water Bay 1979 Club came from the understanding of art and mankind. Drawing from Vincent van Gogh's definition of art, Qiang created a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also resonates with the human spirit. The club is a reflection of the poem, "When shall I reach the top and hold all mountains in a single glance," embodying the journey and the aspiration to reach the pinnacle.

The Water Bay 1979 Club is not just another city complex; it stands out for its unique properties. The project was conceived and executed by top artists in China and professional art institutes, making it the first city complex community featuring refined art in the country. While serving as a sales office, the club pushes the boundaries of design by blending modern art into its structure and decor.

The club was realized using a variety of materials, including champagne gold brushed stainless steel groove for the outdoor facade and iron plate lacquered with fluorocarbon paint for the indoor facade. The use of BOLON carpet for the floor and inner facade, gradient cement fibrolite plate for the facade, and super white glass 3M gradient film for the washroom, adds to the aesthetic appeal of the club.

The club, spread over an area of 1050sqm, offers a relaxing sense of beauty. The 8.2-metre high space on the high-raised floor in the hollow layer gives visitors a distinctive breath of humanity and the greatest comfort in body and mind. The avant-garde furniture and pop art elements bring a unique art experience to all visitors.

The project started in September 2015 in Shenzhen and was completed in March 2016. The design process involved extensive research and overcoming creative challenges. The club's design features gradual changes, not just in terms of materiality, but also as a friendly expression of design. The club's reception desk, featuring whitened suitcases, offers a warm welcome to visitors, creating an atmosphere of unsophisticated simplicity and modernism.

The Water Bay 1979 Club is a testament to Yu Qiang's vision of combining aesthetics and humanity to meet the increasing demand for a sophisticated lifestyle in the city. The club, which also serves as an exhibition hall for customers and a sales office for the property on the coastline, is a perfect blend of art and lifestyle. The club was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
